Patching the ISO directly is inefficent and too complicated to do. Instead, try to set up Riivolution patches.

On the console, yes. However, there are ways to test things on the emulator with only the extracted fs.

Exactly, and here is a tutorial: http://kuribo64.net/board/thread.php?id=3290 (if you need one)

You need to add your Planet's id to PlanetMapObjectTable.arc in the bscv editor. Make sure the name of your planet is the same name as the .arc. And it is easy to patch an iso with files but you can't do ASM Hacking on an iso... Yet. But why would you need to anyways? If you have a homebrewed wii thats all you need! I understand If you want to play portable so check out the site that Snifit8 sent you.

PlanetMapDataTable is for more advanced settings, such as HighRes and LowRes shit or whatever. Just add it to the ProductMapObjDataTable as a SimpleMapObj...

PlanetMapDataTable is for planet objects. If you add it to ProductTable only, it won't fully behave as a planet object. For example, planets are always rendered from wherever you stand in the galaxy. For ProductTable objects, you have to set up ViewGroupCtrl stuff.

I do it ! I had an object who don't exists into the ObjectData list and so I can't use Wiiscrubber. Yesterday I knew nothing about SMG Hack and now after more than 20 hours of searches I know how to patch any .iso of Mario Galaxy with the textures of your choices. Moreover I cannot use riivolution because I didn't currently have the disc of SMG2.
It is based on a ISO compiler.

If you want to test on PC, don't use WiiScrubber. I used to do that, but it is much slower (and have heard patching with WiiScrubber can sometimes go wrong, and you get a crash for no reason (although I am not sure)). The better way to do this is to use an extracted ISO and run the game from the extracted files. There is an easy way, which has always worked for me, and the old way, which has never worked for me (but has for other people).

The easy way is I believe in the link Snifit8 posted, but I'll give you my explanation:
1) Get an ISO of SMG2 and get wit. The wit that comes packaged with Dolphiilution is the one I use, but any should work (HeroicGamer's Easy WIT Tools could be an option).
2) Open cmd and type:
[path to WIT.exe] extract [path to ISO] [path to extraction folder]
NOTE: Make sure there are no spaces in the file paths, and that the extraction folder doesn't exist. WIT will create that folder.
3) Open Dolphin (a 5.0 experimental release, here's the one I use: https://dl.dolphin-emu.org/builds/dolphin-master-5.0-6428-x64.7z )
4) Click on the settings, and go to paths. Set the folder where it looks for games to whatever you typed in WIT as the extraction folder, and check the subfolder option.
5) Close and reopen Dolphin, and you should see SMG2 on your games list. If you set this up correctly, the file size should be 0MB.
Now double click it and you're done!

NOTE: if you want to keep your save data, you need to do an extra step. Quoting StapleButter,

Now, for Dolphin to see your game's save data, there's an extra step needed. You can skip it altogether if you don't have save data.

Open Dolphin's 'User' folder. Go into 'Wii' then 'title' then '00010000'. You need to know your game's ID. Choose your game's ID:
SMG2 PAL SB4P
SMG2 NTSC SB4E

Once you got your ID, convert it to hex, with a tool like this: http://www.dolcevie.com/js/converter.html
The hex ID is the result, with the four numbers stuck together. For example, for SMG2 NTSC the hex ID would be: 53423445

In the '00010000' folder, find a folder whose name is the hex ID of your game. Copy that folder.

Go back to the 'title' folder. Create a folder named 'ffffffff' (if it already exists, rename it or delete it). Inside that folder, paste the folder you previously copied, and rename it to 'ffffffff'.

(yes, I did modify it a bit)

Now copy your game's normal save data over to that folder. I can finish this section up when I get home.

You don't need to actually. It reads the normal save data so you will probably never need to do that final step.

It didn't work for me without that step, but I did this a while ago, so maybe it has changed.
