Super Mario Galaxy 64 is a hack of Super Mario Galaxy 2 that remakes levels from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS using the Galaxy 2 engine. It isn't an exact remake, since Galaxy 2 does not have the same assets as Mario 64, of course. As such, many concepts have been altered to make the game more enjoyable and different than its N64 and DS counterparts.

The game is decently far into development. Several levels have been made, but not many are close to completely finished. I don't have any estimated release date yet. But I am working on a demo that will be released soon.

I'm currently working on everything, meaning the level design, 3D modelling, etc. I would like to thank Aurum for so much advice and being the reason I could get into SMG hacking, and SY24 for the incredible logo.

This looks pretty cool, but the models need some fixing. I like your version of Jolly Roger Bay

Looks great, though you might as well call it Super Mario Galaxy 64, Super Mario Galaxy 2 64 sounds weird

Looks interesting. The world map model for Bob-Omb Battlefield could use a touch-up, though.

I've now made three new levels. Sunshine Isle Galaxy, Toxic Log Galaxy, and Bowser in the Dark World. You can see pics of them and a new trailer with gameplay of them on the first post.

This looks pretty good
I especially like the Goomba level, with all those moving platforms.

Ok, I like the idea and I think it could be a really great hack. I just have a few questions.

Did you retexture the original models from SM64? If so, was it intentional to fit in your level design? The texturing is pretty good, at least most of it. Your models really (and I cant stress the 'really' enough) need shading. Its just vertex colors and it takes five minutes per level, but it makes a HUGE difference (In blender).

But yeah, this has good potential.

If you don't want to shade manually. You can use maya and it can bake vertex shaders for you in 2 minutes

PaperplateismGuy can blender also automatically bake vertex color/shade. If so what is the function called :-)?

I don't know, sorry. Im pretty sure you can. I just use a plugin that someone uploaded on K64 to export vertex shaders with the .obj file.

Yep, it was created by blank. If I can find it, I'll reupload it somewhere.

Well, to be honest, I've never been able to understand Blender. I've tried it before and followed some tutorials but I can't understand the interface. Everything I've ever made has been in Sketchup, so it's the reason the models don't look good.

This is absolutely amazing. Don't let these guys tell you that you need to do vertex shaders or anything dumb like that. Model quality isn't everything, after all graphics don't make a game. Just keep doing what you're doing, I think it looks absolutely fantastic. This right here looks like the closest we will ever get to "Mario Galaxy 3"

I understand. It takes a lot of effort to get into blender. Although once you get over that first hump, it gets a lot easier.

I like the hack, I not saying he has to redo the models and all that. The models themselves are fine as they are. Vertex shaders just make the model a lot more playable, that's all. Having no shade at all makes it difficult to see where you're going. So, uhh, yeah....

Vertex colors make a model no more "playable" than it already is. Just makes things look slightly nicer. It's not a necessity.

By "playable" I really meant easier to navigate.

Decided to make an update on progress. Two new levels have been made - Boo's Haunt Galaxy and Hazy Maze Galaxy. I changed the first post to be more organized, and include pictures and a trailer of the two new levels. I am in World 2 at the moment, as all but one galaxy in World 1 have been changed. The unchanged galaxy is the slot over Fluffy Bluff Galaxy, since I don't know what the hell to do about the Chimp star. Also I am currently learning how to model better, so I really hope I can get to shading the models and showcasing them shaded soon.

While it looks pretty good, I think that Boo's Haunt looks a little bit too empty and uninteresting at some points and the textures don't fit together for both levels.
