This tutorial is about setting up a "Destroy Crates" mission.
1. Place the ExterminationCheckerWoodBox and give it an unique l_id.
2. Now, give it a SW_A and SW_B switch (e.g. SW_A = 60 and SW_B = 61).
3. You'll need some crates (WoodBox). Their GeneratorIds have to be equal to the ExterminationCheckerWoodBox's l_id.
4. Add a Gearmo (Caretaker) and set its obj_arg0 to 0. Obj_arg1 defines the time in seconds.
5. Give it a SW_A and SW_B switch, as well. They have to be the same as the ExterminationCheckerWoodBox's switches (e.g. SW_A = 60 and SW_B = 61).
6. Because it's an NPC, it requires some text as well.
7. Open the scenario file and set the AppearPowerStarObj to パマタリアン.

Does it only work with Gearmos? Is there a setting for other NPCs that would work?

No, it only works with Gearmos.
But you can make the Gearmo really small and place a copy of the other NPC's model on top of it, with an "idle" animation loaded via name matching...right?

Then the player would always go through the NPC because the hitbox of the Gearmo is smaller and NPC model files don't have collision.
