So, I've been out of hacking Galaxy 2 for a long time, and I had a few questions in order to help me get back into hacking:

1. How do you move a Green Star from one Layer to another?
2. Is there a way to add a new Layer to an existing Galaxy?
3. How do you change a 4-Star Galaxy into a 6-Star Galaxy? (Does it involve PowerStarIDs, or something else?)

That's all for now. If I have more questions, I'll ask them here!

1. I think I tried that a long time ago, but the game crashed when I clicked the Green Star (probably because it was trying to load a different intro cutscene or something).
2. So, port the current Galaxy's files into your Zone Template... or create the Galaxy (and its Zones) from scratch.
3. But what do I do about the PowerStarIDs (since those are "hardcoded")?

1. Oh. OK.
2. So... Port or re-create?
3. Do I just select any set of 6 PowerStarIDs?

3.Yeah. I don't know what the numbers.

That sentence feels incomplete. You don't know what the numbers... what?

Yup, I don't know what the single numbers mean. But I have the theory that they have something to do with hidden stars and green stars.

Oh, that makes sense.

But I did notice: On every 4-Star Galaxy, the Green Star IDs are "4" and "8" (respectively), while on every 6-Star Galaxy, the Green Star IDs are "8", "16" and "32". So, it's really a question of: "What do the first three numbers mean?" Right?

So... I was moving some Green Stars to other missions in Yoshi Star and Spin-Dig Galaxy, and they both crashed:

In Yoshi Star, I moved Green Star 3 to the second mission, and the Galaxy crashes when I select any of the three Green Stars.
In Spin-Dig, I moved Green Stars 2 and 3 to the second mission, but the Galaxy only crashes if I select Green Star 1.

Does anyone know why these crashes are happening?

Hmm, maybe my theory is right. Try to use different PowerStarIds
For Yoshi Star you would take one where the third green star is based on the second star.

Well... I tried using different PowerStarIDs for Yoshi Star and Spin-Dig... AND IT WORKED!!!

So, the PowerStarIDs do indicate what mission the Green Stars appear in.

Also, for no reason... Here's a spreadsheet of all the PowerStarIDs:

So, I've run into another problem - this time with Puzzle Plank Galaxy. I moved Green Stars 1 and 2 in the first Star, and I moved Green Star 3 to the second Star. I then changed the PowerStarIDs to match those of Sky Station Galaxy. The problem is that every tim I select a Green Star, the game crashes.

I don't know if it crashes because of a PowerStarID fail, because the second Star is a Comet mission, or something else? Do you kniw why it might be crashing?

That's weird... because I put two Green Stars in Hightail Falls's Comet Star, and that Galaxy worked just fine. (Besides, the original game put a Green Star in Flip-Out's Comet Star as well.)

This is complicated... Here's what I did:

Puzzle Plank Galaxy has the PowerStarIDs of Sky Station Galaxy, because I put Green Star 3 into the second Star (which is a Comet mission). This causes a game crash.

Hightail Falls Galaxy has the PowerStarIDs of Cosmic Cove Galaxy, because I put both Green Star 2 and Green Star 3 into the second Star (which is a Comet mission). This causes the game to work correctly.

Something is going on with Puzzle Plank Galaxy... and I can't figure out what. (Maybe a debug screen could help?)

Actually... I think it's something in the level itself because it crashes right before it goes to the white screen after the Star select screen.

EDIT: Just found out - It only crashes when it tries to load Green Star 1 or Green Star 2 (which are both in Star 1). Green Star 3 (which is in Star 2) loads just fine. I think I know what's happening - it might be crashing because of the Comet Medal... since I tried moving that too.

UPDATE: So... I still have not figured out what is wrong with Puzzle Plank Galaxy, BUT I have got something that may help a little... a debug screen!

Here is a video showing what leads up to the game crash, as well as the Debug Screen that it unlocks!
https://youtu.be/ZH4H83ffSuo

EDIT: So, I still have zero ideas as to why the game crashes, and I have not been able to figure out the cause of the crash... but I have realized that the game also crashes if Star 1 is selected. Also, strange question - Do you know how to "read" debug screens? (Because I don't... )

(Note: This only applies to Super Mario Galaxy 2.)

After testing out PowerStarIDs and moving Green Stars between layers, I think I know how PowerStarIDs work...

There are four different types of Stars: Normal (used for normal Stars, comet Stars, and letter Stars), Hidden (used for secret Stars), Green (used for Green Stars in the first Normal mission (labelled as "Green1" below)) and Green (used for Green Stars in the second Normal mission (labelled as "Green2" below)). If you want to move a Green Star in Yoshi Star Galaxy, for example, from the first mission to the second mission, then you'll need to change the PowerStarIDs to match those of a level with a similar level-type layout.

Yoshi-Star Galaxy has the Power Star types: Normal, Normal, Normal, Green1, Green1, Green1. If you change the third Green Star to Green2, then you'll also need to change the PowerStarIDs to match the new Star types of Normal, Normal, Normal, Green1, Green1, Green2 (which is also used by Sky Station Galaxy).

If you change Yoshi Star's PowerStarIDs to those of Sky Station, then the third Green Star will load with the second Star mission instead of the first.

A list of all the PowerStarIDs in Super Mario Galaxy 2 can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JD7Kv3dArQVkbk32_qh_kcI6fpyA4PeLK-PZnVH9khs/edit?usp=sharing

Color Legend for Linked Chart:
Orange - "Normal" Star (normal Star / comet Star / letter Star)
Purple - "Hidden" Star (secret Star)
Green - "Green" Star (Green Star that loads with Star 1)
Teal - "Green" Star (Green Star that loads with Star 2)

(You CAN put a Green Star in a galaxy's comet Star... as long as the comet Star is Star #2 of that galaxy.)

I know that my description is complicated and long, but it has to be... since no-one else really knows how PowerStarIDs work... Sorry!

When I try to extract SMG1's files with the SMG-Extractor, I keep getting the "Failed to Mount the Disc" error. (I have HBC v1.1.2 and Extractor v1.0.) What causes this error?
